WHAT YOU WILL DISCOVER HERE
I am passionate about many things. I’ve lived in some really interesting places and done a lot of cool stuff. You won’t find it all here, but you will find a few of the things I really do like. Others might think it’s boring; well it’s my site. Anyway I have narrowed down the material and separated it into six general themes.
There will inevitably be some overlapping of content, so I have added category side bars and cross references for easy navigation along a theme. Clever, huh? As I am still a bit new at this game, the site will morph and change over time.
This is an on going learning experience for me as well as a hobby (see self education).
Finally, if people are interested in any of the stuff found here, or have comments (polite ones please) they can always ‘contact me’ to find out more.
LIFE SPACE
Life space is all the non work stuff. It focuses more on general living and everyday themes. Here I will share travel experiences, blog about local and international issues, share funny material and reference articles of a science, technology and social opinion nature. Don’t expect a replica of Facebook. I’m trying to get away from that format. But I will share sites that I like and promote some great ideas and gadgets that you might find interesting.
FEATURES AND ARTICLES
Often I find an interesting article somewhere on line, say in Linkedin or News, but when I try and find it again, it is either way down the feed or has been lost in duplicate stories. I want to link these articles to my site so they can be easily recalled. There is a lot of great stuff out there to be shared. But don’t worry, there will be no “Seven ways to improve your, succeed at, grow your…” etc. I will leave that to others.
WORLD OF WORK
This is my attempt to separate work from play. Work is just that, things relating to the hospitality world of which I am a part. I have referenced other sites and sourced articles of a professional nature that interest me. I am a keen presenter, so I can offer tips and tricks on how to improve your skills in this area. I also believe in training and development, wishing to share the experiences and lessons a career in hospitality has taught me.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING
People who know me well are aware that I like training. In fact I had a stint as a lecturer and tutor at The Hotel School, Sydney (Southern Cross University) a few years ago. I also held an honorary professorship at the Lijiang College of Hospitality and Tourism (big grin). But seriously, I enjoy training and educating, whether for a class of hospitality students or one on one with mentees in the hotel industry.
PRESENTATION SKILLS
When it comes to the art of presenting and creating engaging presentations, I am a passionate fanatic. I was able to develop and improve my skills through amateur acting, by creating my three daughters’ 21st birthday “speeches”, with monthly business review meetings and staff “Town Hall” meetings. Even in its most basic form, providing meaningful and relevant content with slick and engaging delivery is paramount for a good presentation. I’ll share some of my experiences here.
OTHER USEFUL STUFF
This bit is quite subjective and depends entirely on what interests you. But, this is my site and so I’m going to share stuff that interests me. Being an average kind of guy, I reckon there are a whole lot of other average people out there who might find the contents interesting as well. Here you will find all kinds of recommendations, practical tips, useful gadgets and critiques or tech reviews.
