Nigel is a ‘Hospitality Nomad’ or wandering hotelier.

Thanks for visiting my site. You can take a quick look around by going straight to the home page or by selecting site overview from the menu bar. ‘Life Space’ is casual/social and ‘World of Work’ is more about business. There are galleries too…

Anyway, about Nigel; He was born in England but as a young boy moved to Australia and later became an Australian citizen. Although based in Sydney, having lived and traveled extensively through China, SE-Asia, Europe and a little of North America, he prefers to think of himself as a ‘citizen of the world’. Most recently he lived in Aonang, Thailand, where he was General Manager of the Banyan Tree Krabi.

A graduate of the Lausanne hotel school, Nigel is a veteran of the hospitality industry with more than 35 years experience in luxury hotels and resorts. He also had a stint teaching at The Hotel School Sydney (Southern Cross University).

When not busy running hotels he is an active adventurer and explorer who likes to get immersed in the culture of the places in which he lives, engaging with the locals, sometimes with the minority peoples, as well any eccentric and interesting expats who might live there.

Nigel is a humanist, interested in world affairs, an activist for a better life, seeking self fulfilment and what he can share for the betterment of others. He is always willing to be a mentor, pass on positive experiences, knowledge and the lessons life has taught him.

He now travels with his adopted dog ‘Lucy’ whom he found abandoned in a cardboard box, outside a restaurant in Hongcun, China, when she was about three weeks old. For Lucy’s story, go to life space and also check out her gallery.

THINGS THAT MATTER TO ME

To give this website some sort of context, I have chosen the content in terms of those issues I consider relevant or important to me.

The site roughly divided into ‘Life Space’ and ‘World of Work’. Life Space is all the easy reading, cosy, but sometimes contentious, everyday, nothing to do with work stuff. As a Hotelier, my ‘work’ relates to the hospitality world of which I am a part. I have referenced some other sites and sourced third party articles that interest me. I am a keen presenter, so I will offer tips and tricks on how you could improve your skills in this area, if you want to. I also believe in training and development, wishing to share the experiences and lessons a career in hospitality has taught me. But don’t take it all too seriously…

In my ‘life space’ I share travel experiences, blog about local and wider themes, share funny material and reference articles of a science, technology and social opinion nature. Don’t expect a replica of Facebook here. I sometimes share sites that I like and promote some great ideas and gadgets that you might find interesting. Oh, and share pic’s and stories about Lucy. She deserves it.

INTERESTS AND HOBBIES

I’ve always been interested in making things, doing new stuff, giving back to those who can learn, and as Bilbo Baggins said “…going on an adventure”. What I like is broadly separated into four categories;

TRAVEL & ADVENTURES

We all have a bucket list. Some things just need to be done no matter how old or young we are.

SPORTS & ENTERTAINMENT

I love both. Whether it is a personal challenge or just getting on stage to create a few laughs.

TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT

Teaching and mentoring can be satisfying and rewarding, as long as the student is willing to learn.

MAKING STUFF & TINKERING…

When you live on your own, it pays to be resourceful. I’m always looking for new things to make or fix.

MY COMMITMENT

Try and keep this site going! …As well as communicate, educate, entertain and inform; that’s my mission and my goal. I hope that in the process people will enjoy this website and its contents.
