Tiger Leaping Gorge

One of the most spectacular places on earth. It is located in Yunnan Province on the border of Lijiang and Shangri-la Prefectures. It’s only an hour and 15 mins drive from Lijiang city. The narrow and deep gorge showcases some of the most spectacular mountain scenery you will ever see and is rated among the top ten best hikes in the world.

The ancient landscape has been shaped over the millennia by earth movements from the Indian continent crashing into the Himalayas and erosion from the Yangtze River. Its a geologists Nirvana according to my mate Tony (and he would know, having been a geologist…)

Get your hiking boots on. Stay overnight at the “Half Way House” if you can, then make sure you finish with lunch or early dinner at Sean’s Guest House. Great local and western food.
